After sunset. During an outage.
Why Most NorCal Solar Plans Now Include A Battery
PG&E's peak runs 4–9 pm and exports under NEM 3.0 / the Solar Billing Plan earn roughly 5–9¢/kWh, so stored daytime power is worth more used at home than sold back. A battery also keeps the essentials on during an outage.
What do you need to keep running?
Typical runtime on a full charge
24–48 hours
One battery
Solar recharges it every day.

Honest savings
What Solar Does To Your Electric Bill
Without solar, your whole bill goes to the utility and keeps climbing about 6% a year. With solar and a battery, the bill drops to a small fixed charge, you make a fixed payment toward a system you own, and after 20 years the payment ends.

Spartan Smart Own
Own It. Get The Discount Up Front. Buy It Out For $0.
Smart Own is a prepaid power agreement funded by an ordinary solar loan. Three steps, then it's yours.
- 1
Your loan funds a prepaid agreement
One fixed monthly payment, the same kind of solar loan you'd get anyway.
- 2
Up to 30–35% comes off the system price on day one
Applied to the price itself, so your payment is based on the discounted number from month one.
- 3
At the end of year 5, you buy it out for $0
The system is yours. Keep provider-level maintenance after that if you want it, as an optional plan.
The old homeowner credit (25D)
You paid full price, then got up to 30% back at tax time, and only if you owed enough tax. It ended for systems completed after Dec 31, 2025.
Smart Own uses the 48E credit, which still applies
Similar savings to the old 25D, taken off the price up front. It's more paperwork for us, not you, and it works even if you don't owe any taxes.
5–10%
In a study of about 5,000 California home sales, homes with owner-purchased solar sold for 5–10% more than comparable homes without it.
Ways to pay
Three Ways To Pay
01
Cash or loan
You own it. Lowest lifetime cost, 0% options available, and it adds resale value.
02
Lease or PPA
Little or nothing down. A provider owns and maintains it. Watch the yearly escalator, transfer rules and buyout if you sell; it adds little resale value.
03 · OWNERSHIP PATH
Spartan Smart Own
48E savings taken off the price up front, a $0 buyout at year 5, optional maintenance after.
Roof + solar
Built On A Roof That Will Outlast The Panels
We inspect the roof before designing solar. If it needs work, we plan the roof and panels together: one crew, one permit set, one number.
Already have panels? Remove. Re-roof. Reinstall.
Spartan removes and reinstalls existing solar during a re-roof, and reviews equipment condition, ownership and warranty terms first.

Got another written quote? We'll compare it side by side for a comparable system. We rarely get beat.

FAQ
Lafayette Solar & Battery Questions
Usually yes, when the system is sized for how you use power in the evening. Under NEM 3.0 exports earn roughly 5–9¢/kWh, so a battery that shifts your daytime production to the 4–9 pm peak is where the savings are. We model both ways and show you.
The homeowner credit (25D) ended for systems completed after Dec 31, 2025. The 48E credit still applies through Smart Own, lease or PPA, with similar savings taken off the price up front, even if you don't owe taxes.
Only if the roof won't outlast the panels. We check first and tell you honestly. If it needs work, roof and solar are quoted together.
Yes. The utility's fixed charge stays, and most homes still buy some evening power. The goal is to shrink the bill, not to pretend it disappears.
A written estimate first, for your home. If you already have another quote, we compare it side by side for a comparable system.
Yes, though adding it with the solar is cheaper and keeps one permit set.
An owned system transfers with the house. With a lease or PPA, the buyer has to take over the contract or you buy it out.
Typically several weeks from signed estimate to permission to operate; design, permit and utility approval set the pace. Your project plan shows your timeline.
We do. Two local offices, three generations, and we answer the phone.
